Orange Spider Plant
Chlorophytum amaniense 'Fire Flash'
Family · Asparagaceae
Also known as · Chlorophytum orchidastrum
Building upon the confidence I gained with its more popular counterpart, the Orange Spider Plant, became one of the better success stories from my B&Q rescues. Almost thriving on neglect, a sporadic watering and semi bright windowsill has been enough to see this plant flourish.

Care & Environment
A striking tropical relative of the common spider plant, Chlorophytum Amaniense 'Fire Flash' is grown for its luminous, glowing petioles. Native to the warm, shaded forest floors of East Africa, it forms a broad rosette of smooth, broad green leaves that radiate out from vivid neon-orange central stems. While it shares the subterranean resilience of its genus, its wider foliage and glowing central core offer a warm, architectural contrast to finer, cascading houseplants.
Watering Routine
Allow the top half of the substrate to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly around the edges of the pot, avoiding pooling water directly inside the central rosette to prevent crown rot. Moderately sensitive to fluorides and minerals in hard tap water, which can cause leaf-tip browning, using room-temperature rainwater or filtered water helps keep the broad leaves pristine.
Soil Blend Recipe
2 parts peat-free potting compost, 1 part perlite, and 1 part fine bark or coco coir. Rich, moisture-retentive, and well-aerated to support its fleshy root system without holding stagnant moisture.
Light & Micro-Location Details
Thrives in bright, diffused light. Strong indirect light is key to maintaining the rich, glowing orange saturation in the central petioles and leaf bases. Keep out of harsh, direct sun to prevent scorch marks on the broader, softer foliage.
Dimensions & Potting Specs
Forms a compact, upright rosette growing 30cm–45cm tall and wide. Unlike standard spider plants, it produces seeds or basal clumps rather than trailing runners, keeping its footprint neat and self-contained in a medium-sized pot.
